Herts Modern Art has its foundation in an exhibition of contemporary art held in 1999. A show of seven artists who worked with the millennium theme 'Building to the Future' and produced modern work in the unlikely surroundings of the ancient St Albans Cathedral. Multi Media, sculpture, painting and poetry all played their part in highlighting the fact that modern art struggles to show its face in Hertfordshire.

This exhibition was the genesis of HMA. It showed the thousands of people who saw it that there is new work in Hertfordshire and that it doesn't have to be limited to larger stages like London. Three years on and this website acts as a central station for the ideas embodied by the fore mentioned exhibition.
